Justin Bieber – Purpose Tour India Review | Concert OOTD | Vlog
Justin Bieber’s Purpose Tour happened in Mumbai, India on 10th May and if you’re following me on my social media, you would be knowing I flew from Delhi to attend this concert. But what people didn’t know that it was my solo trip. Yes! So, I again went for a solo trip and attended the concert all by myself (talk about riding solo lol 😛 ) I was supposed to go to the concert with my friend but she had her exams so unfortunately she had to cancel. Hence, solo riding at the concert 😀
In this post, I will be sharing my concert experience, views on Justin Bieber’s concert, videos from the concert and of course, pictures of the outfit I wore.
I was closely following Book My Show and White Fox on Twitter for updates to have a hassle-free experience. Will give 10/10 points to Book My Show for being prompt in answering questions.
I reached late to the venue – D.Y. Patil Stadium to avoid the traffic rushing there and I did beat the traffic 😀 Considering it was too hot that day and I had fever (had 101.5F fever when I landed in Mumbai), I chilled at KFC just right across the stadium & planned to enter when Alan Walker’s set starts. By chilling at KFC I meant, observing how everyone is going for concert with friends or with their so, feeling kinda lonely, wondering does it look sad that “I am attending concert alone?”, staring at my phone and frantically eating fries all along haha But the moment I got out of KFC and started walking towards the gate, all my excitement rushed in and I was gushing over the fact I will be watching two of my fav artists perform Alan Walker and Justin Bieber today!!
Ok disclaimer time, I am not a Bieber fan or a Belieber! I just happen to like his Purpose album & could relate to the lyrics. I genuinely feel Bieber is a good singer with pretty catchy songs up his sleeves but not a fan of the way he behaves or handled things so yeah not gonna fan girl or blindly support everything. Expect a rational approach in this post. Being said that, I feel he gets a lot of hate, simply cos’ he is Bieber and that’s unfair, especially when you hate his music for absolutely no reason. I seriously got a “You’re going to Bieber’s concert? Chiiiii! Ewwww!” Now that’s totally uncalled for and dumb tbh.
Moving on to the concert, I first would like to put it out there the concert was badly mismanaged, I mean Sunburn felt better managed than this event (and Sunburn this year was a major let down in management). The event organizers are completely to be blamed for and I will talk about management flaws later in this post.
The next day after the concert, I saw an uproar on social media about Justin Bieber lip syncing away in the concert, giving zero f*cks and putting in half-*ssed effort. I kept quiet, was reading all the tweets, posts and news articles and amusingly I didn’t find a single news bit NOT hating on Bieber. After reading everything that’s been written I would like to take the case and remember I am not a Bieber fangirl, just a music & concert lover talking out her views.
Starting with lip syncing bit, I am amused by the people and their comments, like did you guys find out about lip syncing recently ? Or are so blind in hating Bieber that you never noticed other artists resorting to lip syncing for their live gigs? Like geez, do you live under a rock? Beyonce did it, so did MJ, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston & the Beatles! And I haven’t even started yet it’s a long long list! Yeah I know, a rock band worth their salt won’t ever lip sync, even jazz singers won’t. But comparing a pop star to a band (to the people comparing Bieber’s concert to Coldplay’s, Led Zeppelin) is like comparing apple and orange, it’s just plain stupid! These are two different genres, very different artists, so you gotta be dumb to expect same kind of performance from them. But I know your hating head still won’t get it so let me put it up for you, rock bands don’t have intense choreography and theatrics to entertain their fans, they don’t have physically demanding dance routines for their concerts. And yes some pop stars can sing while dancing it away, some can’t and that’s okay, different artists give importance to different things: some give importance to dancing, some to singing. After all no artist is alike just like your fingers.
Moreover, if you see in my video, Bieber said it was too humid so maybe, just maybe since it was his first time in India and he is not used to such hot humid weather so maybe that was taking a toll on him. Let’s try being reasonable, he is a human after all. That being said, yes even I agree he could have lip synced better, made it more believable (cue to Britney Spears, the poster child of lip syncing, except for a few goof ups)
Then some people were commenting Bieber wore gym clothes to his concert, he didn’t event bother to wear a costume for his concert! LOL SERIOUSLY?! Please get out of your cocoon and look around, almost every teenager, youngster dresses this way – it’s a fashion trend called athleisure, luxe athleisure to be precise. So first of all, his outfit was on point (maybe you need to brush up your idea of global fashion), secondly, he is a teen sensation and wore what most of the people his age wear these days, so what’s your point really?
Now here’s a tip to Twitteratis who were thanking their Gods that their tickets were free since they absolutely hated the concert. You know YouTube is free too, you could have checked the videos to know how Bieber does his concert before deciding to pounce on the free tickets that some brand or event organizers gave you so you post on every social media account of yours cos’ “dekho mere city mein bada concert ho raha hai, toh main bhi jaaega waha kyuki sab waha jaa rahe hai!” I seriously would request brands and event organizers, please invite the influencers to the concert who listen to that artist or that genre at least. Why to waste a ticket on an influencer/internet famous lad who doesn’t listen/like the genre of the artist and will whine the whole time that what a waste the concert was?
And can we stop with 76k for a ticket joke please? It was funny at first but then it got too stretched and fyi 76k was the highest price for the ticket not every ticket costed 76k bro, so just stop with your overly dragged joke. Tickets started from 4k and a lot of people like me bought those tickets so spare us with your “haha you spent 76k to watch a guy do dubsmash” cos’ you will need to pay 76k to people to watch you dubsmash so SIT DOWN.
But among all this, the most funny thing was the news articles quoting uncle aunties who brought their kids to concerts but don’t understand & listen this genre, the internet famous people who are too cool to listen/like Justin Bieber songs and the people who didn’t attend the concert but just were making fun of Bieber to get likes & RTs in their review of the concert and on the top of that they are getting referred as Justin Bieber fans who got disappointed & felt cheated! Seems like these news articles were hating on Bieber just cos’ the majority is doing so and it makes their article a great click bait and more acceptable, right? So the reporters thought, let’s not research and not collect the views of the fans who actually listen to the artist. With their half-a**ed journalism & research, they are trying to call out half-a**ed efforts put by the artist! What an irony!
Moving on to event management issues, being one of the biggest concert in India, one would have some expectations. But it was a huge let down, the sound equipments weren’t at par nor were the screens, washrooms were few & horribly dirty, security wasn’t enough to manage such huge crowd. In short, a poorly organized concert.
Concert organizers need to consider taking care of cab services and phone connectivity. Here’s why? Let me share my story of what happened when the concert was over.
Justin Bieber’s concert was over by 9:40pm. I had pre booked my Uber for 10:20pm thinking concert will get over by 10 and I will 20 minutes to get out of gate easily. What seemed like a great decision then, totally became a fail. My phone had no signal, like NO EFFIN’ SIGNAL, so I couldn’t call anyone or switch on my net & check my cab details. So I ran to KFC, used their free wi-fi only to find someone else was already on trip on the cab I booked! Yeah?! I am standing here at KFC and someone else got on my Uber. So I ended that trip quickly and intimated Uber what happened. Then I booked another cab, it took a while but I booked a cab! Finally! And this is where the disaster started, my cab was booked but I had no signal in my phone so couldn’t call and reach the cab driver. So I started asking people to let me call my cab driver from their phone but sadly, almost everyone’s phone wasn’t getting a signal. After asking more people, I found a group of teens and one of them’s phone was getting a signal! So I quickly called the driver only to know he is stuck in a jam, will take him more than to half an hour to reach, now considering the situation (no phone signal & cab shortage) I said ok I will wait and gave him my details. Around 11:20pm, I got a text that my ride has been cancelled by my driver (my phone miracly got signal for a second) so I called the driver but my phone signal went again! Just wow! By now it’s 11:30pm and I am panicking how will I reach the place I am staying, it was in Mumbai city so will take at least an hour + to reach there. Suddenly my phone rang, it was my room mate, she told me to find auto stand & ask local auto rickshaws to drop me to nearby mall and from there I can get a cab. For the next hour, I tried asking every auto wala, even every cab too if they can drop me to nearby mall but no one agreed, saying there was way too much traffic. It was past 12 now, my phone has no signal, I have no transportation to reach home and I started regretting my decision to fly down for concert. All tired I sat on a pavement & a lot of people where sitting beside me, so I asked one aunty what can I do, how to reach back home, in between I told her I came from Delhi so I am not well versed with all the places she was mentioning. Then there were 2 girls sitting beside me I asked them same question what other options do I have to reach home? And PRAISE THE LORD, I met the kindest of souls there! These two girls themselves offered to drop me as their father were coming to pick them up. I was so happy and grateful for their kindness, but I was a little bit scared too you know, I mean given the fact I am completely new to Mumbai, don’t know these girls personally, it was near to 1am and the news we keep hearing doesn’t help you feel safe especially at late hours. Still I put up a strong face but I guess they could see the fear on my face, so they told me not to worry, assured me I will be fine, made me feel comfortable throughout the road. I gotta thank my stars to meet these kind souls. And after we crossed Navi Mumbai, I got my network, I called my family and the friends I was living with, they talked to uncle, figured where they can drop me and my friends can pick me up from there. So yes I reached safe and sound and happy! A huge shoutout to Vaishnavi, her cousin Harshali & uncle for helping me out, the world is a better place cos’ of people like them. I seriously cannot thank them enough for dropping me back home! ❤
Concert organizers really need to do something about network issues. They must install signal boosters for the concert and also, should have shuttle services or offline booking stations for Ola and Uber. Cos’ I am pretty sure it wasn’t only me who faced these issues!
In a nutshell all I can say is Purpose Tour India was a very poorly managed gig but Justin Bieber made it worth our while! And yeah haters are gonna hate, but I had a blast dancing, enjoying his songs and as far as I remember everyone around me too was having the time of their lives. We were singing together, hooting, dancing around and cheering him while watching him perform, I in fact joined in a group of girls who were beside me and we shook a leg together. There was such amazing vibe at the concert, though the humidity was making me sweat like a pig, I had a good time! Made some good memories! 🙂
